Sunset at Petrel Cove

Partly inspired by my friend Colin's recent sunset photos and Steve's photography group's sunset assignment, we decided to visit nearby Petrel Cove to see what we could come up with. A five-minute drive from home, the cove is a picturesque bay backed by the Bluff on one side and hills that almost run down to the sea on the other. The shoreline is full of granite boulders, especially when the tide is out, as it was on the evening we went. Here Steve is setting up in preparation for the sunset which was to occur at 8.17pm.  As you can see, it's still quite light at about 7:50pm.

My camera is not as good as Steve's but I managed to get this shot of a rock pool before the sun's rays started to reflect its golden light on the water.

We were disappointed to see that the sun was slowly setting behind a wide swathe of cloud so we knew there'd be no spectacular shots for us. But I did love this dog that was having so much fun bounding in and out of the water. You can see the gentle light now reflecting on the shore.

The sun was still high in the sky, but annoyingly behind that cloud bank.

Time for some creative shots.

This is probably my best shot.
